THE ARTS Council's first community theater play debuts this weekend when 11 local actors perform John Patrick's "The Curious Savage."

MR. AND MRS. Chad Curry of Clay County announce the birth of their daughter, Cassie Marie Horner Curry, born Aug. 18 in Albany. Cassie joins two brothers, Reid and James and one sister, Ann.

MICHELLE Leigh Ne- Smith of Blakely has been named to the University of Georgia dean's list.

THE KOLOMOKI archaeologial site has been the focus of investigation and laboratory analysis of materials unearthed during the summer.

MARINE Cpl. Freddie J. King, son of Essie M. King of Arlington, has reported for duty with headquarters Squadron 38, Marine Corps Air Station, El Toro, Calif.

MR. AND MRS. Durward Evans enjoyed having Mrs. Evans' sister and husband (Tim and Daphne Holiday) from Fayetteville, N.C. ,spend a couple of days the week before last.

MRS. JAMES Richard (Daisy Monk) Herring, who was 100 years old Aug. 31, celebrated her birthday at the home of Mrs.W. Raleigh Jones Sr. in Albany.

Sept. 5, 1957

ROBERT HALL, owner of Hall Drug Company, announces the addition of Robert North to the prescription department. Mr. North is a native of Ashford, Ala.

ONE OF Blakely's oldest mercantile establishments, The Barham Jewelry Company, is now located on South Main Street, next door to Smith's cafe.

MOSELEY'S weekly livestock auction sales grossed $19,674.11, when 305 head of hogs and 101 cattle brought $8,479.84.

MR. FRANK B. Bridges, Miss Sharon Bridges and John Oscar Bridges, of Tallahassee, Fla., were weekend visitors to relatives here.

THE REV. and Mrs. William H. Ansley celebrated their silver wedding anniversary Sunday, Sept. 1 with a reception at the parsonage on College street.

Sept. 1, 1932

MR. R.M. HOBBS has returned from a week's visit to Baltimore and Washington. He attended a meeting of the National Rural Letter Carriers in the former city.

EDWIN G. Barham left Monday night for Pensacola where he will visit relatives.

MISSES Frances Espy, Caroline McCallum and Dorothy Espy of Dothan are guests of Miss Mary Grist.

MR. AND MRS. A.H. Moore and daughter, Claire, of Key West, Fla., are spending several days here with relatives.

AFTER spending the summer at home in Blakely, Mrs. P.H. Fitzgerald and daughters, Misses Nancy and Margaret, will leave Monday for Atlanta.

JOHN N. Holder, candidate for governor of Georgia, was a visitor in Blakely Wednesday.

Sept. 5, 1907

MR. J.B. Mills, who has had charge of the Merchants Hotel, has moved to Cuthbert.

MR. R.L. Howell has sold his brick store on River Street to Messrs. J.W. and J.O. Bridges.

MR. W.A. Harper was bitten by a moccasin last Friday and was violently ill for some days, but is better now.

MR. AND MRS. J.B. Murdock have returned to Blakely. Mr. Murdock will engage in the grocery business.

THE COUNTY Commissioners have fixed the tax rate at five mills, which added to the state rate of five mills, makes a total of 10 mills.

MR. GRADY Smith is now with the Citizens First National Bank in Albany.

Aug. 31, 1882

BOB TOOMBS announces that while he has frequently disagreed with Alexander Stephens, that Stephens was and is a Union man and that he was and is a Secessionist, still, if he votes, he will vote for Stephens.

MR. W.F. Buchannon took the position of baggage master on the Blakely Extension on Wednesday last.
