Let the Bible Speak
Measuring with God's yardstick
Robert Argersinger, Hentown Church of Christ

When we want to measure something correctly the use of a ruler, yard stick or a tape measure is very helpful. These items are standards of authority to tell what the correct measurement is.

The Bible is God's yardstick, pattern and standard to measure our lives by. The authority for what one does in Christianity is the Bible.

Man cannot decide his own standard of authority, it must come from God (Jeremiah 10:23).We live in an age where people say the determination for right and wrong lies within themselves. Humans make mistakes and are not reliable standards to follow (Proverbs 14:12). The philosophy of "if it feels good do it" is as well the guiding force in some peoples lives, but feelings may change, so they also are not reliable patterns to live by.

We must follow God given authority, for God is the source of all authority (Ephesians 4:6). God has given Christ all authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18-19).

We must measure everything in our lives by God's word for it is the standard we will be judged by (John 12:48). We must then go back to the Bible to please God, for it is our pattern for living.

Please obey the plan of salvation today. (Romans 10:17; Hebrews 11:6; Luke 13:3,5; Romans 10:9-10; Acts 2:21-47).
