Art grants available in Early county

The Southwest Georgia Grassroots Arts Program announces the availability of funding for arts events in Early, Miller and Seminole counties. Since 1993 the Georgia state legislature has allocated these funds annually to every county in the state to put arts programs within reach of every resident. These funds are administered by the Georgia Council for the Arts through its regranting agencies across the state. The council is a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.

Sowega GAP, the designated re-granting agency in this area, announces the following grant amounts available to our counties for the fiscal year 2007- 2008: Early ($2003.83), Miller ($1816.42), Seminole ($1910.15).

Applications for funding an arts event before June 30, 2008, must be received by Sowega GAP by September 19, 2007. The applicant must be a unit of government, a not-for-profit organization or have a consenting non-profit agent as a sponsor. The IRS designation does not have to be 501(c)(3), but the organization must at least be incorporated in the state of Georgia as a domestic notfor profit entity. Examples of eligible applicants, in addition to government agencies and arts organizations, include churches, libraries, Family Connections, senior citizen centers, social and recreational clubs, civic leagues, social welfare organizations such as after-school programs, and fraternal societies. A business or corporation which would like to provide an arts event to further employee enrichment must apply through a not-forprofit sponsor such as an arts council.
