Griffin murder still unsolved Dothan authorities are still investigating the tragic death of Perry Griffin, 37, a resident of Ashford, Ala., and native of Blakely. Griffin was found lying beside his vehicle in front of Panhandle Converter and Scrap Co. on Beverlye Road in Dothan on the morning of June 26. Griffin had died of gunshot wounds. Investigation of evidence, including footage from a security surveillance camera, confirmed that Griffin was ambushed, robbed and murdered by two armed assailants as he was preparing to leave for Mississippi on a work-related trip. The ambush murder of Griffin received national television exposure on America's Most Wanted. The story of Griffin's murder is on America's Most Wanted Web site at www.amw.com, click on "Fugitives." $30,000 Reward Anyone with information is asked to contact the Dothan Police Department at 334- 615-3000 or Crimestoppers at 334-793- 7000. A $30,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Griffin's killers. Griffin had arrived at Panhandle Converter and Scrap Co. on Beverlye Road early on the morning of June 26 to make the trip to Mississippi to purchase scrap metal. He unlocked the gate, parked his vehicle and drove a company truck outside the gate where he stopped to lock the gate and retrieve over $30,000 from the company office for the trip to Mississippi. Before he got back to the truck two masked suspects murdered and robbed him, leaving him on the ground beside the truck. The two masked suspects appeared on the company's surveillance camera which recorded the murder and robbery. Tragedy extended Several days after Griffin's murder, one of his co-workers was killed in a wreck just minutes from Panhandle Converter and Scrap Co. Floyd Laylow was on his way to clean the office before the arrival of fellow workers and crisis counselors when he was killed in a traffic accident between the circle and Beverlye Road. Tragedy struck again a few days later when Laylow's sister, Christine Pennington, who had just attended his funeral in Dothan, was killed on her way back home in an accident on I-10 in Florida. Griffin had been active in the Ashford community the past several years, especially in church and recreation activities. Plans were recently announced to name a new ballfield in Ashford in his memory.
He is survived by his wife, Ginger, and three children, Tripp, Georgia and Lucy.
