Blakely man murdered

One Blakely man is dead and another is in an Albany hospital recovering from gunshot wounds following an execution-style shooting Monday night.

Killed in the shooting was Jeremy Lofton of Blakely. The hospitalized victim is reported to be Terrance Benton, also of Blakely.

Early County authorities received a 911 cell phone call at approximately 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning reporting a victim on the side of Highway 216. It was first believed the shooting had taken place in Baker County.

However, Benton, despite suffering six gunshot wounds, somehow managed to make his way to the emergency room at the Arlington hospital. When Calhoun authorities made their way to the scene of the shooting a short time later it was determined the incident had taken place in Early County on Highway 216 near the Baker county line.

Lofton's body was found at the scene where he died from a single gunshot to the head.

Authorities had not released any names Tuesday, but were searching for two suspects believed to be involved in the shooting.
