Football in the air again

And, the football was in the air Monday afternoon amid the heat during the Bobcats' first scrimmage in full pads. The Bobcats head to Kolomoki State Park for a two-day camp Thursday.
The 86th edition of the Early County Bobcats took to the practice field Aug. 1 and turned out in full pads Monday in preparation for the 2007 football season.

Football camp

The Bobcats are returning to football camp at Kolomoki State Park again this year. Last year the Bobcats returned to football camp at Kolomoki for the first time in 29 years. Unlike the 1977 football camp at Camp Hicita, however, the Bobcats will be there only two days, not two weeks.

The Bobcats will get at least one practice in Thursday afternoon when they arrive at Camp Hicita. They will have a full day of practices Friday and will get two practices in before they leave camp Saturday.

The Bobcat football camp, which started in the mid 1950s with the arrival of Coach Frank Buckner, has a rich history, many involving the Cedartown coaches and players who were at the camp with the Bobcats for most of those years.

A dinner for fans and former Bobcats will highlight the camp again this week. Bobcat Coach Trey Woolf is hoping a lot of old Bobcats who attended those camps will attend a dinner at Camp Hicita at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10.

Scrimmage with Terrell

The Bobcats will host a scrimmage with Terrell County at Standifer Field at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 23. The Bobcats open the 2007 season at Bainbridge Aug. 31. All regular season games this season will begin at 7:30 p.m.
