Camp E-Tu-Nake receives physical education grant Camp E-Tu-Nake received a $3,500 2007 physical education grant from the Future Fisherman Foundation. The purpose of the grant is to incorporate fishing and boating into the physical education curriculum. "Your proposed fishing/ boating program demonstrates a strong combination of positive exposure and in-depth, comprehensive program design and curriculum layout," said Future Fisherman Foundation grants coordinator Jesse Graytock. The program is sponsored by the Future Fisherman Foundation, the American Sportfishing Association, the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation and the National Association for Sport and Physical Education. There are several water bodies near the camp, including Lake Kolomoki in a state park about 10 miles from the program. The Withlacoochee, Suwannee and Chattahoochee rivers are also close enough to the camp for day trips. There is also a creek on the property. The grant is for a sixweek curriculum that was devised by Camp E-Tu- Nake education coordinator Janice Whitehurst. In addition to fishing guidelines, students will be graded on swimming and canoe instruction. The program will utilize the grant to pay for a variety of fishing equipment, two canoes and first aid and safety gear. Whitehurst will also attend an instructional program given by the foundation in Traverse City, Mich. prior to the program kicking off.
After the six-week course in completed, the camp is going to utilize the new gear to continue the program for the 30-40 boys at the camp.
