Pilot Club members attend convention

Louise Jones, Dot Willis and Bette Wilde, members of the Pilot Club of Blakely, joined more than 1,000 Pilot members from all over the world at the Pilot International/ Pilot International Foundation annual convention in Norfolk, Va., July 11 through July 14.

In addition to business meetings and workshops, convention attendees took part in the "PIF Walk," a fund-raising event held to increase awareness of brain injury and brain injury prevention. The walk was held by the waterfront in downtown Norfolk Friday, July 13. A memorial service was held by the waterfront later the same day.

Convention attendees took part in a banquet and installation of Pilot International officers for 2007- 2008. Guest speakers included the radio personality and LIFE seminar leader Dr. Joey Faucette, award-winning humorist Hope Mihalap and Paralympics gold medalist and Fortune 500 speaker Randy Snow.

Members of Anchor Cubs, the youth division of Pilot International, took part in an on-site service project during the convention, collecting toiletry items like shampoo and toothbrushes for distribution to homeless and women's and children's shelters in Norfolk.

Founded in 1921, Pilot International is a human service organization of volunteers working together to improve the quality of life in communities throughout the world. The organization's service focus is helping persons with brain-related disorders and disabilities through education, volunteerism and financial support. The Pilot Inter-national Foundation awards thousands of dollars annually in grants and scholarships to further education, research and programs that benefit those affected by neurological diseases and injuries to the brain.
