Criminal justice classes

Through a collaborative effort of Bainbridge College and Albany State University officials, ASU criminal justice classes will be taught at Bainbridge College beginning with the fall semester.

Veteran law enforcement officer and educator Dr. Harry Bruno of Thomasville has been named to lead the program which will allow students to earn a bachelor's degree in criminal justice.

Dr. Bruno comes to BC from Thomas University where he was criminal justice studies coordinator and had taught since 1996.

While employed by the U.S. government, Dr. Bruno had top secret security clearance. He participated as an expert on terrorism at the 2006 Oxford University Round Table in England. He is an expert in intelligence gathering and covert operations, international crime and terrorism, juvenile justice and police.

His teaching career includes colleges in Oklahoma, West Virginia and Canada. In addition to law enforcement work in Dougherty County, the U.S. Army veteran was chief of police in cities in Oklahoma and West Virginia.

Students interested in the program may contact Dr. Bruno at 229-248-2560 or his direct line at 229-248- 2564.

Students with a certificate in criminal justice technology from the technical studies division may be eligible for the program. They can continue at BC to earn an associate's degree in criminal justice and pursue their bachelor's degree. About 15-18 hours of classes identified as CRJU for the technical certificate can be transferred for the twoyear degree.

By mid-July 12 students had already registered for the new bachelor's degree program for fall semester. Classes for the new criminal justice program start Aug. 13 in renovated facilities at the Decatur County Board of Education Annex at 1304 E. Evans St. behind Bainbridge Mall.
