Stricter policies at ECHS Early County High School officials have adopted a stricter dress code policy for the upcoming 2007-2008 school year. The dress of students must be in good taste, appropriate for school activities, in accordance with the school rules and not be disruptive to the learning environment. The following items are acceptable: • Clothing that is non-revealing in the chest area and midriff area. All tops must cover the skin above the pants at the waistline and must not fall below the wrist with arms at the side. • Sleeveless tops and dresses should be wide enough to cover the majority of the shoulder area. No tank tops or spaghetti straps will be allowed. • Pants, shorts and skirts that are belted or fitted and are worn properly at the waist. • Males must tuck in shirts so that a belt is visible. • Clothing free of holes and made of a non-see thru material. • Dress and skirt hemlines that touch the top of the kneecap when standing upright and worn properly at the waist. • Proper undergarments that are not visible. • Clothing or jewelry that is free of obscene, vulgar, inflammatory, derogatory or suggestive language or gestures, references to alcohol, drugs, tobacco or illegal substances, or gangs including symbols, logos or trademarks. • Coats that do not fall past the rear pants pockets. • Clean well-groomed hair in a style not disruptive to the learning environment. • Male facial hair is limited to a well-groomed mustache. • Males are not allowed to wear earrings. This dress code is established to teach grooming and hygiene, instill discipline, prevent disruption, avoid safety hazards and teach respect for authority. Student dress reflects the quality of the school and affects students' behavior. Students who are not in compliance with the dress code will face the consequences outlined in the Student Handbook where a complete list of acceptable and non-acceptable dress can be found.
Other changes for the upcoming school year involve tardies to school or class. Any student arriving at school after 8 a.m. should report to the Assistant Principals' Office. The student should have a signed note from a parent, guardian, doctor, governmental agency or other appropriate source. The late arrival will be labeled as excused or unexcused based on the excused/unexcused absence criteria. An admit slip will be issued for a student to gain admission to class. The Early County School System provides bus transportation for students, therefore, vehicle difficulties do not qualify as criteria for excused tardies. Students are considered tardy to class if they are not in the classroom when the tardy bell begins ringing. Consequences for unexcused tardies can be found in the Student Handbook.
