$18.6 million BOE budget

The Early County Board of Education approved a tentative $18.6 million budget at their July 10 meeting at the middle school.

This year's budget represents a substantial increase over last year's $17.5 million budget. Approximately $700,000 of the increase in this year's budget is associated with the state's 3 percent pay increase and mandated increases in the employer's share of health insurance.

Stella Smith presented the system's financial report and the tentative budget for the 2007-08 fiscal year. The board scheduled a work session for 5:30 p.m. July 23 to discuss budget items. A called meeting has been scheduled for 5:30 p.m. July 26 for final adoption of the budget. Both the work session and called meeting will be in the middle school media center.

The board approved the Early County High School handbook and policy revisions relating to school councils, board meeting time and place, administrative records, student attendance and compulsory attendance ages.

The policy revisions were results of state policy changes.

The board accepted bids for three buses and approved personnel recommendations including Keith Gore, ECHS English; Brenda Johnson, GHGT science remediation; Catheron Simmons, agriculture; Martha Bush, parent mentor; and Letitia Blackmon, ECMS English.
