COACH RAY Knight enjoyed a moment with Jim Crowdis as he handed out "victory cigars" during Saturday night's dinner honoring the former Bobcat coach. Approximately 200 Bobcats and friends gathered with Knight and his family in recognition of the impact he has had in their lives.

MISS EARLY County Forestry Nicole Willis and Little Miss Early County Forestry Abby Brown will compete in the Miss Georgia Forestry Pageant in Tifton this weekend.

MR. AND MRS. Davis Pyle recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception at Cedar Springs Free Will Baptist Church. They were married June 29, 1947, at the home of Rev. W.T.Wiley.

DANA MATHIS Ginn and Garrett Nathaniel Bennett were united in marriage Saturday, July 26, 1997, at 7 p.m. at the Morgan Baptist Church with the Rev. Joseph Dukes performing the ceremony.

July 22, 1982

BLAKELY-Early County Recreation's 13-14 year olds Dixie Boys All-Star team won the District No. 8 Tournament Sunday afternoon, defeating Lee County by a score of 7-4.

THE YARD of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Chapman, 229 Cedar Springs Road, has been chosen "Garden of the Month" by the Blakely Garden Club.

ARTHUR Chapman along with Mary Jane Hughes and Jeff Willis invite everyone to stop by and visit the newly remodeled Phillip's 66 Self-Serve at the corner of South Main and Columbia Highway.

BRAD WILLIS, 15-yearold son of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Willis of Damascus, recently became the second Eagle Scout of Troop 83.

July 25, 1957

THE HONOR of ginning Early County's first bale of cotton from the 1957 crop goes to Arthur Parr of the Lucille community.

MISS CLAIRE Still spent the weekend at home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hollis Still.

MRS. ELLA Marquis, of Tampa, is visiting in the home of her daughter, Mrs. H.C. Fort.

MR. AND MRS. Don Tedder and son, Terry, spent last week at Buford ad Lookout Mountain.

MR. AND MRS. Henry Michael and children, former residents of Blakely and now of Chula Vista, Calif., spent several days here the past week with Mr. and Mrs.W.F. Arnold.

FRIENDS are interested to know that Mrs. Richard Alexander and her sister, Mrs. Alice Trippe, joined by Mr. and Mrs. Brinson Bowman of Quincy, are visitng Mr. and Mrs. Homer Trippe of El Paso, Texas.

July 21, 1932

G.W. WINDSOR, living on the Hall plantation east of the city, sent The News two open bolls of cotton Wednesday afternoon.

BLAKELY defeated Ashford 3 to 2 last Thursday afternoon and also won from Damascus 10 to 5 here Tuesday afternoon. White pitched for Blakely in the Damascus game and Bush in the Ashford game.

WILLIAM Grist Jr. left Sunday for Los Angeles, where he will attend the national convention of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He will also attend the Olympic Games being held in California.

MESSRS. Harold Middleton and Clayton Stephens spent several days the past week on a boat trip down the Chattahoochee River to Apalachicola Tuesday.

THE BOARD of Registrars has completed its work and reports there are 2,416 Early countians qualified to vote.

MR. ROSS Hammack has accepted a position with a newspaper in Quincy, Fla.

THE DISPENSARIES at Columbia and other places have been closed by special legislative act.

MR. J.M. Trawick sends us the first open boll of cotton of the season.

MESSRS. Jack Standifer and Lester Wilson were visitors in Bluffton last Sunday afternoon.

MESSRS. Tom and Porter Chandler went down to Savannah Tuesday.

July 20, 1882

MR. GEORGE Chipstead has a new dwelling underway.

MRS. ABRAHAM Lincoln, widow of the late president, died at Springfield, Ill., on July 17.

MR. R.C. Smith's new home on Cuthbert Street bids fair to be the handsomest dwelling in Blakely.

THE NEW STORE of Messrs. Jones and Singletary, on Cuthbert Street, is nearing completion.

CAPT. WADE and family left on Friday last to spend a few days at Indian Springs.
