Taxes, big deals, memories
Well, there are some people around the state talking about reforming the state's tax code and doing away with property taxes - completely. There are some solid arguments out there for tax reform, even abolishing property taxes as proposed in HR 900. At the same time, there are concerns and questions surfacing around the state that raise doubts about just how good the idea of abolishing property taxes actually is. It is an extremely important issue that is going to be at the head of the agenda when the General Assembly convenes in January. The rehtoric is going to reach a fever pitch. Regardless of the outcome, it is going to directly affect you and your pocketbook. That's why we are beginning a series of articles on page 5 this week on the issue. We hope you read them and become better informed about the proposed tax reform. *************** Did I hear some whining about my picture being on the front page - twice - this week? Well, passing the Rotary gavel to the next president is a big deal! Just ask Bob a few months from now. And, if a previous Blakely Rotary Club president had the opportunity to induct his son into Rotary, I don't know about it. Another big deal! *************** Raise your hand if the Gene Ragan Show was a household staple in your home for decades. Now raise you hand if you were actually on the Gene Ragan Show. Another big show of hands! Hats off to Gene, and thanks for the memories! ************
