Joyce Walker Joyce Byrd "Penny" Walker, 65, of Blakely died Monday, June 25, 2007, at Donalsonville Hospital. Mrs. Walker was born in Early County March 10, 1942, to the late Arthur Paramore and Aggie Fedd Byrd. She was a member of Newberry African Methodist Episcopal Church and a graduate of Early County High School. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy C. Walker; three siblings; one son-in-law, Connell Freeman Sr.; and two stepsisters, Cleddie Hart and Martha Hartaway. Survivors include companion, Thomas Barber Jr.; two daughters, Brenda Byrd Brown and husband Walter of Fairburn and Linda Byrd Freeman of Killeen, Texas; one son, Byron Byrd Sr. and wife Donna of Cottonwood, Ala.; five sisters, Neta Mae Dollar and Irene Thrash, both of Atlanta, Maggie Lee Jones of Bainbridge, Bonnie Lee Orange of Williamsboro, N.J., and Ruthie Mae McNeil of Monticello, N.Y.; one brother, Richard Byrd of Atlanta; step-mother, Sarah Paramore of Gordon, Ala.; two step-sisters, Bernice Mitchell of Gordon, Ala., and Robbie Brown of Ashford, Ala.; one stepbrother, Bill Brown of Gordon; and six grandchildren, Kaniyika Freeman, Connell Freeman Jr., Shakia Brown, Orranda Brown, Shakeitha Byrd and Bryon Byrd Jr. Funeral services were Saturday, June 30, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Donalsonville with Rev. Thomas Dawsey Sr. officiating. Interment followed at Newberry Cemetery in Jakin. Pallbearers were Melvin Cook, George Johnson, Willie Fudge, Anthony King, Benjamin Jackson and Kelvin King. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Sander's Chapter Lodge 948.
Community Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
