Grand old lady turns 103

Freedonia Harris Echols
Our Grand Old Lady is 103 years old! The Early County Courthouse was built in 1904.

Also 103 years old is another grand old lady, Freedonia Harris Echols, Early County's oldest known citizen. Mrs. Echols, who now resides in Blakely, was born in Cedar Springs July 6, 1904.

Although she raised six children, the life-long resident of Early County has always taken life easy. To help take stress out of her life she always went fishing every chance she got.

She is the daughter of the late Peter Harris and the late Mary Perry Harris.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Emory H. Echols of Blakely; two sons, Charlie Echols and Emory H. Echols Jr., both of Blakely; and five brothers and sisters, Nettie Harris Ceasar, Mattie Harris Kimble, Ellen Harris, Lee Earnest Harris and Rufus Harris.

Mrs. Echols has 24 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 28 great-greatgrandchildren.

She is the mother of Inez E. Murrell of Riviera Beach, Fla., Frank Echols of Blakely, Mary Wimbs of Ft. Lauderdale and Doris Hayes of Burlington, N.J.
