County adopts $7.1 million budget for FY 2007-08

The Early County Commission approved final adjustments to their 2007-08 budget last week and discussed ways to fund the $7,132,905 needed to operate the county for the coming year.

Commissioners decided to take $825,000 from the county's reserve fund to balance the budget leaving $1.6 million in the county's reserves. The millage rage will be set when the tax digest is completed.

The budget for the coming fiscal year represents an overall increase of $175,124 over the 2006-07 budget of $6,957,781.

In other business, the commissioners heard the first reading of a change to the travel trailer ordinance and adopted a resolution concerning the county's intent to apply for a Community Development Block Grant in 2008 for improvements to the county's health department building.

Nancy Bates was reappointed to the tax assessor board and Angie Haddock was reappointed to the Albany Area Community Service Board.

Commissioners also discussed contracting with a company to provide ongoing property assessment services to the county. The county is also preparing a fee schedule for commercial sites using county dumpsters. Currently, the county has 28 commercial dumpster sites and 16 public use sites for household garbage.
