Three members of the FACES Youth Council recently attended Georgia Teen Institute. GTI is a weeklong leadership conference held at Oxford College for youth councils from across the state. Sponsored by GUIDE Inc., the focus of the conference is building student leaders with a concentration on alcohol, tobacco and drug awareness. The students enjoyed nationally acclaimed speakers, team building activities and a variety of workshops.
FACES returned home with a Silver Star Award for their work throughout the past year and a creativity award. This particular award was given for the movie night the team sponsored in May 2007. All area high school students were invited to the Early County High School football field for an outdoor showing of "Night at the Museum." The youth council incorporated information and activities concerning underage drinking into the event.
FACES Youth Council is composed of high school students from Early County High School and Southwest Georgia Academy who meet once a month to discuss and target issues related to teens in Early County.
