Mary King Duncan of Blakely was the guest of honor at a 90th birthday dinner at Pirate's Cove in Colquitt. The celebration was hosted by her son, Jim King of Dothan, and daughter, Carmen Miley of Tallahassee.

Mrs. Duncan was born Mary Anne Calhoun on June 30, 1917, to Mr. and Mrs. John C. Calhoun in Camilla. When she was 11 years old she moved with her family to Sanford, Fla., where she finished high school.

Mrs. Duncan graduated from Norman Junior College in 1937. She began teaching in elementary schools after graduation.

In 1941 she married Guy King of Albany and Blakely. World War II began soon after her marriage, and her husband joined the Navy Seabees and was overseas for three years. During this time, Mrs. Duncan lived with her husband's mother, Mrs. I.A. King, and taught at Blakely High School.

Upon his return, they lived in Albany several years and then moved to Blakely in 1945 and remained here.

While at Early County High she was sponsor of the annual "The Bobcat," sponsor of Senior TriHiY and sponsor of FBLA. She has a teaching span of 36 years and substituted 10 years after that.

In 1972, her husband, Guy King, died.

In 1996 she became the wife of Dr. Charles Duncan, a Georgia Baptist minister from Stone Mountain and Dublin. They had been sweethearts 60 years earlier at Norman Junior College. They lived five years in Dublin and five years in Blakely. He died May 18, 2006, in Blakely.

The dinner tables were beautifully decorated in the birthday motif. Vases of roses were used on the tables. The two birthday cakes were baked by Janet Bell of Bainbridge, a friend of the family.

After dinner at the birthday celebration, gifts were opened and best wishes were expressed.

Those in attendance at the celebration, other than the hosts, were grandchildren, Jason King of Montgomery, Farnum Miley of Ailey, Ga., Dr. Maryanne Miley of Tallahassee, and Caitlin King of Dothan; step-grandson, Jimmy Sass; great granddaughter, Carleigh Miley; step greatgrandson, Zachary Sass; son-in-law, Farnum Miley Sr. of Tallahassee; daughterin law, Mary King of Dothan; granddaughter-inlaw, Carla Miley of Ailey; longtime friends, Mary Bedell of Blakely and Faye Lewis of Damascus; and Tina Hunter of Tallahassee and Janet Bell of Bainbridge.
