Police searching for two Perry Griffin murderers The News learned last week of the tragic death of Perry Griffin, 37, a resident of Ashford, Ala., and native of Blakely. Griffin was found lying beside his vehicle in front of Panhandle Converter and Scrap Co. on Beverlye Rd. in Dothan on the morning of June 26. Authorities were called to the scene at 6 a.m. CDT. When police arrived at the scene they discovered Griffin had died of gunshot wounds. They initially believed Griffin may have stumbled onto a burglary in process or was the victim of a robbery. His truck was still running with the lights on when they arrived at the scene. He was discovered by a co-worker. Investigation of evidence, including footage from a security survellance camera, has confirmed that Griffin was ambushed, robbed and murdered by two armed assailants. According to one of last week's stories about the murder in the Dothan Eagle, Joe Donovan, the owner of Panhandle Converter and Scrap Company, stated that unedited security video showed two gunmen bursting from the woods and converging on Griffin just as he was preparing to leave for Mississippi on a work-related trip. "This was a 100 percent planned event," Donovan said. Griffin apparently tried to wrestle the gun away from one of the men and was then shot. The tape shows one of the men grabbing what appears to be money from the ground and fleeing. "I think it's safe to say they were lying in wait," Dothan Police Chief John Powell said. Powell said police are looking for the two men, tall and slender in build. He is survived by his wife, Ginger, and three children, Tripp, Georgia and Lucy. Dothan police said Griffin's seven-year-old daughter, Georgia, emptied her piggy bank and added to the reward posted for information leading to an arrest of the persons responsible for her father's death. The total amount of the reward now stands at $17,534.50. Georgia got $34.50 from her piggy bank. While Dothan police continue to look for the men responsible for The ambush murder of Griffin is receiving national exposure.
