Grant Bruner, son of Tony and Lisa Bruner of Blakely, attended a reception given by Gov. and Mrs. Sonny Perdue June 9. The reception was in honor of Georgia's high school valedictorians.

Bruner, along with his parents, enjoyed touring the mansion and the beautiful gardens.

Grant was also notified by Kathy Cox, state superintendent of schools, on being named a 2007 Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholar for the state of Georgia. This is a federally funded program which recognizes and awards outstanding academic achievement. Grant was nominated for this award by ECHS. This award pays a total of $6,000. This is a great honor for Grant, his family, teachers and school administrators.

Grant was also awarded $600 for placing third in the UAW Georgia Scholarship Essay Contest along with several other local scholarships. He will attend Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta this fall where he will major in engineering.
