Clearing way for U.S. 27

They are coming! They are already here, in fact! If you have not been out U.S. 27 south recently, you may not recognize a lot of the landscape.

The Georgia DOT let a $29,139,015 contract to Oxford Construction Co. in March for the 7.983 miles of four-laning U.S. 27 from the Damascus- Hilton Road north to the south end of the U.S. 27 bypass in Blakely.

The contract lists 14 subcontractors that will be involved in the project, including right-of-way clearing, widening of 27, reconstruction of intersections and bridges. The completion date of the contract is August 2009.

Once the Blakely - Hentown section of U.S. 27 is completed, the only remaining construction to complete the road to Columbus is the stretch between Blakely and Cuthbert.
