Mumbles
She has been a great mother to our kids, a great wife, and, well what can I say, she's a grandmother, too. And, I suggest from my Nandaddy experience that she's a pretty good Nana. Did I mention she's a pretty good newspaper person? Well she is! While her tenure doesn't reach as far back as mine (I was sweeping floors and melting lead about 10 years before I was a twinkle in her eye.), she has actually been a fulltime newspaper person longer than I have. By just a little bit! The Georgia Newspaper Association has been a part of our lives for over 35 years. Our kids grew up at conventions with other newspaper kids from across the state. It's not only an honor to get the opportunity serve Georgia Press Association, it is humbling to see your own name on the same list with so many hallowed Georgia journalists' from our state's history. Judy will do just fine during her year as president. GPA really does have an exceptional staff and a strong committee structure in place. It's not her I'm worried about. It's me. Only three having trod before me, the groundwork about how to go about being the GPA first man is shaky at best. ************** There are several stories on the front page that tug at my heart, and I'm sure many of yours. My prayers go out for A.J. Gentry and his extended family. And Perry's death leaves three children and a wife alone in Ashford.
The other story tugging at my heart is the one about the end of the Giles and Justice partnership. They were both more than "my doctor," they were both "my friend."
