THE REV. Madison Morgan of Effingham County has been appointed to serve as minister of Blakely First United Methodist Church.

MARY JEAN Cooper and Hubert Bradley were named employees of the year for Early Memorial Hospital and Early Memorial Nursing Home.

LEAH SUSAN Hall and William "Bo" Lane were named Early County Middle School's eighth grade valedictorian and salutatorian.

THE UNITED States Achievement Academy announced that Jadrien Grimes from Early County Middle School has been named an All-American scholar.

LEIGH ANN Cooper was among those students named to the dean's list for spring quarter 1997 at Wallace College.

June 17, 1982

MR. AND MRS. Curlin Pelt of Blakely announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Ruth Evelyn, to Eddie Walter Tolbert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Tolbert of Jakin.

THE EARLY County Historical Society held their annual covered dish supper at Miss Virginia Harvey's log cabin at Echodel. President Walter Sheffield welcomed members and guests. Over 50 attended.

BILLY J. Washington, son of Zion and Mary C. Washington of Route 2, has been promoted in the U.S. Air Force to the rank of technical sergeant.

MISS THARYL D. Cawthon graduated from Kentucky State University with a master's degree in public affairs with a 3.5 grade point average. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cawthon of Blakely. Miss Cawthon plans to return to school to obtain a doctorate degree.

June 20, 1957

DR. S.H. Cook, dean of Berry College, has announced the honor roll and dean's list for the spring semester. Juanita Womble, daughter of Mr. amd Mrs. Clarence Womble of Blakely R.F.D. has been named to the honor roll and dean's list.

A FINAL REPORT on the April Early County Cancer Crusade shows that generous Early Countians contributed a total of $1,635.38. Earl "Tige" Pickle, chairman, has announced. Early's quota was $1,391.

PRISCILLA Marshall and Emylee Houston are delegates from Blakely F.H.A. chapter to the state leadership training conference at Lake Jackson this week.

MR. AND MRS. Luther Ward of Lake City S.C., announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Patsy Ruth, to Eugene Cooper Barbree, of Atlanta and Blakely, the wedding to be an event of Saturday, June 29, 8 p.m. in the Lake City Baptist Church.

June 16, 1932

THERE WERE 35 additions to the membership in the ten-day revival meeting which came to a close Wednesday evening.

CONG. E.E. COX will have no oppostion in the forthcoming primary.

THE FEDERAL Government has added another tax to the cost of living - a 3 percent tax on electricity.

MESSRS. ED Kelley Jr., Bert Puckett and Billy Hall are spending several days down at Dead Lakes, Fla., on a fishing trip.

MISS NETA Barham of Memphis, Tenn., is spending the week here with the family of her father, Mr. F.A. Barham.

MISS Margaret Sparks returned to Athens Sunday to enroll in the summer session of the University of Georgia.

visit to Carrabelle, Fla.

RICHARD Alexander has returned from Graceville, Fla.

MISS WILLA Jones, of Bluffton, is in the city on a visit to Mrs. Charles E. Boyett.

MRS. H.E. Bryan, of Bluffton, is visiting Mrs. W.B. Standifer this week.

DR. W.W. Calhoun and Mr. W.T. Hammack of Bluffton were in the city Wednesday.

MR. GEORGE Calhoun, of Colomokee, was a business visitor in the city last Thursday.

A NEW BOY arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wade Brunson last Thursday night.

FOR THE first time in many years we can boast of

good shoe shop. It is under the management of Mr. D.W. Palmer.

WE NOTICE from the

Apalachicola Tribune, on the 9th, that Dr. W.H. Standifer has been elected Quarantine Physician for that port.

WE ARE GLAD to note that Mr. L. Manual has got his store house on Cuthbert Street nearly completed.

RICHARD H. Brooks says he has been eating sweet potatoes since the first of June.

A COTTON BOLL, nearly grown, was laid on our desk last Saturday from the farm of Columbus Walker who farms on the Chattahoochee river lands.
