Two new pastors welcomed
Rev. Turner and his wife Donna will be welcomed to Blakely during the morning worship services Sunday, June 17. The community is invited to a community-wide reception in the church fellowship hall at 5 p.m. Rick Turner was born in LaGrange and graduated from LaGrange High School. He was called into the ministry at age 21. He began his college career at West Georgia College and later graduated from Georgia Southern University. He attended the Candler School of Theology at Emory where he received his master's of divinity. Rick and his first wife, Wanda Efurd Turner, have two married children, Kim Tyson and Richie Turner. Wanda died of cancer in August of 2003. He married Donna Brown in May of 2006. She has two sons, Scott and Jason, who live in Charlotte, N.C. Rev. Turner comes to Blakely from the Brunswick First United Methodist Church. Other pastorates which he has served are Fair Haven- Habersham Charge, the Hamilton Charge, Putney UMC, Brooklet UMC, Centerville UMC, Moultrie UMC, Bainbridge UMC and Warner Robins First United Methodist Church. New Hope Baptist Church has called Bro. Matt Bonnette as pastor. Originally from Illinois, Bonnette served in the U.S. Army at Ft. Rucker for four years. He is a graduate of the Baptist College of Florida and is completing his seminary training through Liberty University. He is also a chaplain in the Army National Guard.
He began serving the church June 4. He and his wife, Melissa, and daughters Madolyn and Macy are looking forward to being part of this community.
