$4,000 arson conviction award

James Swindell and Rod Williams present Blakely Fire Chief Kenneth Jones a $4,000 check for a local citizen's helpful information.
An anonymous local citizen has been awarded $4,000 by the Georgia Arson Control Hotline for information which led to an arson conviction.

James Swindell with Georgia Arson Control in association with the Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commission and Rod Williams with the State Fire Marshall's office, presented a check to Blakely Fire Chief Kenneth Jones Tuesday.

Georgia Arson Control offers rewards up to $10,000 for convicting information in arson cases. The funds for the rewards come from insurance companies and no public money is involved.

"We have given away over $1,304,000 since 1979," Swindell stated. "Initially the cap for rewards was $2,500 and today it is $10,000."

Georgia Arson Control maintains a hotline for the Georgia Fire Marshall's office and any information obtained is referred to local authorities. Help eliminate arson today by calling the hotline at 1-800-282-5804.
