Two long sought suspects caught

Timothy Smith
Two suspects being sought by local authorities for months were apprehended this past week in Alabama.

Timothy Smith, A.K.A "Shine" had outstanding warrants for false imprisonment, drug trafficking and cruelty to animals.

The 29 pit bulldogs local authorities discovered chained to trees in a wooded area in Blakely in February reportedly belonged to Smith.

Several weeks ago a suspect attacked an Abbeville police officer and escaped on foot. During another traffic stop Saturday, with an Abbeville police officer standing outside a pickup truck with the driver, Smith, the passenger, suddenly slipped into the driver's seat and fled.

Following a brief chase, Smith ditched the pickup in a field and fled into nearby woods. He was apprehended a short time later by Abbeville authorities with the help of a Henry County Sheriff's K-9 officer.

After being apprehended, Smith was identified as the suspect who had attacked the officer several weeks earlier. Cocaine was found during a search of the truck.

Patrick Sanders
Smith is being held in the Henry County Jail on charges of assaulting a police officer, fleeing and attempting to allude police officers and trafficking cocaine.

Acting on a tip, authorities also apprehended a suspect wanted in connection with the September armed robbery of the U.S. Food Mart on Magnolia St.

Dothan authorities assisted in the apprehension of Patrick Sanders of Blakely at a house under renovation in Dothan where they were told Sanders would be. He was sanding an upstairs floor when authorities arrived and was apprehended without incident.

Sanders is facing multiple charges stemming from the September armed robbery in which he stole the money from the cash register threatening the cashier with a knife. He was identified by authorities after reviewing the store's security camera which caught the robbery on tape.

Sanders waived extradition and is being held in the Early County Jail.
