Self proclaimed apostle faces child molestation charges

Alexander Jones Harris
A Blakely man who called himself an apostle has been arrested and charged with child molestation by local authorities. Alexander Jones Harris of 655 Jessie Johnson St. was arrested after the uncle of one of the children contacted authorities.

Harris has been charged with two counts of child molestation, two counts of sodomy and cruelty to children. He was also charged with reckless conduct as an HIV infected person who was diagnosed with aids in 1993.

Harris reportedly led a local church briefly before he was forced out by the church's congregation. He then formed Greater Deliverance Ministries and founded a church in Seminole County - Greater Deliverance Temple of God Church.

Harris apparently was able to convince some of his followers to allow their children to stay over at his house "to take care of him."

The incidents leading to his arrest took place earlier this year. While he has been charged two counts involving two boys, it is unclear from police reports how many children may have been molested.

At one point in the reports Harris is quoted as stating all the boys sleep in the bed with him. In one web reference to Harris, he describes himself as "a spiritual eunuch made by disease."

He has been released from jail on a $20,000 bond.
