Where have the dumpsters gone?

County green cans consolidated to 13 sites.
The county began consolidating over 80 green garbage dumpsters last summer which have been collecting household garbage across the county the past 30 years.

At least household garbage is what the cans were placed across the county to collect. However, the abuse of the cans has had county commissioners exploring other options in recent years.

The abuse of the cans varied from area to area across the county. In some locations near the county line with bordering counties the cans were being swamped with out-of-county garbage. In other areas they were being inundated with appliances, construction materials, tires, etc.

The dumpsters have been consolidated into 13 locations as follows: Damascus, Sawyer Road, Second Kolomoki Road, Luke Station Road, intersection of Fryer and Old Lucile roads, Cohelee Creek Park, intersection of Cuba and Bates roads, Damascus-Hilton Road, Jakin, the Confederate Naval Yard, Grimsley Mill Road, intersection of Allen Chapel and Flat Creek roads and Nicholasville Road.

The consolidation plan will be given a chance to work. If problems persist with the consolidated sites, the commissioners will be forced to take another look at a curbside collection system, an option they have resisted in the past.
