Bruce Houston Sr. Businessman Bruce Gordon Houston Sr., 83, of Blakely died Saturday, May 26, 2007, at his residence. Mr. Houston was born in Early County Feb. 9, 1924, to the late Homer Cyrus Houston Sr. and Laura Emma Mock Houston. He was a member of Blakely First Baptist Church and a retired businessman. He was preceded in death by one sister, Hilda King and husband J.B.; three brothers, Charlie Houston, Bill Houston and Bob Houston and wife Rosa; and one brother-in-law, Robert Redding. Survivors include his wife, Mary Claire Jackson Houston; two sons, Bruce Gordon Houston Jr. and wife Sandy of Albany and Brett Jackson Houston and wife Maggie of Blakely; two sisters, Betty Houston Strickland and husband Foy of Ashford and Eugenia Houston Redding of Fort Valley; four brothers, Chester Houston and wife Thelma, Homer Houston Jr. and wife Samolene and Stanley Houston and wife Linda, all of Blakely, and Max Houston and wife Mae of Bryan, Ga.; five grandchildren, Heather, Harrison, Meg, Grace and Cullen Houston; and two sisters-inlaw, LaVerne Houston and Betty Houston, both of Blakely. Funeral services were Monday, May 28, 2007, at 10 a.m. at Blakely First Baptist Church with Dr. Charles DeVane officiating. Interment followed at Blakely Cemetery. Pallbearers were Craig Houston, Scott Houston, Tony Strickland, Stan Houston, Keith Houston, Hayward Houston, Ricky Houston and David Allen Honorary pallbearers were David Cleveland, Jimmy Helton, Graham Harvin, Phillip McBroom, Bobby Royce Smith, Chuck Orrick and Phillip Price.
Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
