LPNs receive pins at Bainbridge College ceremony
Among the May 3 graduates were Lashonda Foster of Early County and Tashia L. King of Miller County, who has family in Early County. Awards were presented to members of the LPN Club, and student leaders and faculty addressed the audience at the Nurse's Pinning Ceremony and Candle Lighting Service May 3 at First Baptist Church in Bainbridge. Foster gave the invocation and King gave the benediction. The 2007 students follow the footsteps of last year's graduates and are preparing for their state licensing exam. Of the 27 who graduated in August, 26 passed the exam the first time, said registered nurse Doris Carmichael, director of technical studies division's practical nursing program. This year's outstanding graduates include Kimberly C. Mims, who received the Academic Excellence Award for having the highest GPA. in the class. Crystal Stacey received the Rose Bud Award; Gena Jackson, the Most Supportive Award and the Teamwork Award; and Michelle Bruss Leadership Award. LPN Club Appreciation Awards were presented to president Michelle Bruss; vice president Jamie Conrad; secretary Brandi Olds; historian Katrina Hention; treasurer Gena Jackson; and activity director Tashia King. Registered nurse Michele Miller, an instructor in the program, presented the student awards at the May 3 ceremony and recognized the recipients at Bainbridge College honors night May 10 at Decatur County Memorial Coliseum. Vice president of academic affairs Dr. Rob Gingras read each student's name at the May 3 event, LPN faculty members Gena Peterson and Wanda Green presented the pins. Carmichael and faculty member Jeffrey Ross presented candles for the lighting service. Nita Widener led the Nightingale Pledge. Graduate speaker was LPN club president Michelle Bruss, who was technical studies division's 2007 Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership winner. She will compete for state honors later this month. Students Jamie Conrad, Lashonda Foster and Cyntoria Ross presented awards and gifts to the LPN faculty. In addition to the faculty members listed above, they recognized faculty members Charletha Washington, Barbara Mc- Farland, Lori Hatcher and Lee Greene.
