ECHS holds honors night program May 15

Students with the highest averages in Career, Technology and Agriculture education classes which include agriculture, automotive, business, engineering, family and consumer science, health occupations and video production were honored.
Early County High School held its honors night program Tuesday, May 15 at 7 p.m. in Mangham Auditorium.

Students in attendance were recognized for receiving scholarships and awards as well as highest academic averages in individual courses. Also recognized were STAR student, junior graduation marshals, honor graduates, valedictorian and salutatorian.

Receiving athletic scholarships were Kenyatta Holmes, Darton College, basketball; Elbert Lee, Georgia Southern University, football; and Emmanuel Taylor, Valdosta State University, football.

Receiving academic scholarships were Wil Giannars, Mercer University; Britney Adair, Fort Valley State University Presidential Scholarship; Grant Bruner and Malanie Love, Bainbridge College valedictorian/ salutatorian scholarships.

Scholarship and award recipients are Kathryn Langley, R. W. Mueller Scholarship; Frankielee Berry, Josh Starr/John Jarrett, Blakely Study Club and Early County Historical Society scholarships; Savannah Smith, Georgia Lions Young Ambassador, DAR Good Citizen, Tom Hall Memorial, Coca-Cola and Janet Barber scholarships as well as the Atlanta Journal Constitution Cup for best all-around senior; Grant Bruner, UAW Georgia State Scholarship, Ellen B. Smith Pilot Club and Farm Bureau scholarships; Daniel White, Lonnie B. Chester scholarship; Tripp Waller, David W. Smith scholarship; Rachel Pyle, Debra Hunter scholarship; Joshua Skipper, choral department and Lions Club scholarships; Haley Pritchett, Cliff Singletary Memorial Scholarship; Daniel McClendon, DAR Good Citizenship and Tom Hall Memorial scholarships; Ryan Ferguson, DAR American History Award; Deanna Hudson, Archbold Award and Georgia Southwestern University Whatley Academic Scholarship; Brittany Adair, Robert Steel, M.D. and Georgia Society of Public Accountants scholarships; Willie Wimberly, student council and Atlanta Farmer's Club scholarships; Tiffany Grigley,Woodmen of the World Award; Malanie Love, Georgia-Pacific Corporation Scholarship; Deanne Allen, McClockin, Murphy, Dishman and Tom Hall Memorial scholarships; Jennifer Cunningham, Loyless Simmons Scholarship; Kendra Mike, Wyatt, Hutchins, Alexandar Family scholarship;Wendy Bradley, Women's Civic Club Scholarship; Cole Odom, Walmart Community and Georgia Southwestern University Wheatley Leadership scholarships; Jennifer Jenkins, Georgia Southwestern University Westbrook Scholarship; Holly Harrell, Georgia Southwestern University Wheatley Academic Scholarship; and Thomas Harris, Blakely Rotary Club Scholarship.

Farm Bureau art contest winners were recognized as Jennifer Cunningham, third; Neil Collier, second; and Kaylyn Green, first. The Blakely Pilot Club also recognized STAR student Thomas Harris, STAR teacher Leann Collins and teacher of the year, Michael Williams. Student Council president Stanton Harrell was recognized for her year of service the ECHS Student Council.

Students with the highest averages in the areas of art, band, choral and drama, English, foreign language, journalism, math, physical eduation science, social studies and yearbook were recognized and presented medals of acheivement.
Eighty-two students were recognized for achieving the highest average in a particular course.

Scholarships and awards were presented to members of the senior class. Scholarships included academic, athletic, student activities and leadership.
Receiving awards in the English department were, MaryAnn McClendon, 9th CP literature and composition; William Matt, 10th CP literature and comprehension; Mitsy Moreno, 10th honors/gifted literature and composition; Ryan Ferguson, 11th CP American literature; Breanna Miller, 11th gifted/honors American literature; Kathryn Langley, 12th CP British literature; and Stephanie Anderson, 12th gifted/honors British literature.

Valedictorian Grant Bruner, Salutatorian Malanie Love and STAR student Thomas Harris.
The social science department recognized MaryAnn McClendon, CP civics; Matthew Brown, CP economics; Ryan Ferguson, CP American history; Tiffany Grigley, honors American history; Dallas Moore, CP world history; Grant Bruner, honors world history, Alden Rogers, sociology, Stephanie Anderson, psychology; and Mitsy Moreno, current issues.

Students with the highest averages throughout the mathematics departments are Iesha Lee, CP Algebra 1; Odyssey Henderson, CP Algebra II; Rachel Pyle, CP Algebra III; Stephanie Anderson, gifted/honors Algebra II; Brittany Lane, CP geometry; Mitsy Moreno, gifted/honors geometry; Breanna Miller, gifted/ honors algebra/trigonometry; and Grant Bruner, calculus.

For the science department, Sloan White, CP physical science; William Matt, CP biology; Mitsy Moreno, gifted/honors biology; Elizabeth Avent, CP human anatomy; Malanie Love, gifted/honors human anatomy; Stephanie Anderson, chemistry; and Thomas Harris, physics.

Female personal fitness/health highest average went to Vantreas Smith and male physical fitness/ health to Bubba Jackson. Kathryn Langley received highest average in broadcast video.

Highest averages in foreign language classes were Jasmyne Butler, Spanish I; Stephanie Anderson, Spanish II; Hannah Nolen, French I; and Ryan Ferguson, French II.

Kendra Mike received highest average for journalism; Jennifer Jenkins,yearbook; Diamond Cody, Art I and Tiffany Grigley, Art II.

Band director Glenn Spurlin recognized Lara Meeks, 9th grade band; Anthony Early, 10th grade band; Ryan Ferguson, 11th grade band; and John Robinson, 12th grade band.

The choral/drama department awarded highest average honors to Jordan Driver, Chorus I; Matt Merritt, Chorus II; Tonya McFay, show choir; and Carrie Collier, drama.

The career, technical and agriculture education department recognized students in business, health occupations, engineering, agriculture, automotive and family and consumer science classses.

Business students with highest averages are Natalie Thompson, computer applications; Daniel White, multimedia; Cliff Price, webpage design; Brittany Adair, business procedures and Jennifer Cunningham, Accounting I.

Health occupations highest averages went to Victoria White, Healthcare Science Technology I; Kristina Cooper, Healthcare Science Technology II; Melissa Goodbread, Health-care Science Technology III; Tara Horn, Healthcare Science Technology IV; and Melissa Goodbread, certified nursing assistant.

Highest averages in the engineering department are Amie Lednicky, preengineering technology; Kristen Taylor, foundations of engineering technology; Chris Serra, drafting technology architecture; and Walt Lightsey, drafting technology-mechanical.

Six students were recognized in the agriculture department. Those students are Keith Floyd, Ag Mechanics I; William Matt, Agriscience I; Clifford Neves, ag foods; Roger McDowell, forestry science; Holly Harrell, horticulture and Derek Eubanks, landscaping.

Daniel Kinjerski, Transportation I; Chris Brookins, Transportation II; and Deanna Hudson, Transportation III, received highest averages in the automotive department.

Family and consumer science students with highest averages are Gashebal Robinson, early childhood education; Andrekia Williams, parenting; Danielle Avirett, advanced foods; Elizabeth Avent, interior design; Willie Wimberly, FACS mentorship; Kelsey Hawkins, leadership, Cliff Price, foundations of FACS I; and Tareka Levatte, FACS II.

Eleven juniors were recognized as Georgia Certificate of Merit recipients, an honor reserved for juniors who rank in the top five percent of their class. Those juniors are Stephanie Anderson, Angie Drew, Tiffany Grigley, Amie Lednicky, Aimee Lucas, Anna McNair, Breanna Miller, Hannah Nolen, Hugh Redding, Kelsey Rice and Christopher Sumner.

Graduation marshals for the 2007 commencement ceremony are juniors Stephanie Anderson, Tiffany Grigley, Breanna Miller and Hannah Nolen.

Medals were presented to STAR student Thomas Eli Harris, salutatorian Malanie Rachel Love and valedictorian Grant Byron Bruner.
