Mumbles
That thought I read somewhere comes to mind with the oral history project the Historical Society recently embarked on. The Society did a tremendous service to our community when they gathered and published the history in their three volumes of Collections of Early County. Coupled with Joel Perry's Pioneer History of Early County and Judge Arthur Powell's I Can Go Home Again, they provide a vast accounting of our community's history. But, it is pale compared to what has slipped through our fingers over the years... forever lost as memories taken to the grave. I am heartbroken and disgusted, mostly at myself, everytime I think about my family's history that has been lost. It didn't really strike me until Daddy died. I didn't even have his voice on tape! It's important to find a way to energize this oral history project. There is a wealth of untapped history about our community scattered across the county, and in cases across the country. "...the heart and soul of your daily life, or the things that matter most to you." That is the history we're trying to capture and preserve for future generations. Several generations of everyday people and family stories have fallen through the cracks in the written records. With your help it doesn't have to happen anymore. ************
If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you are reading it in English, thank a soldier.
