THANKS

Here's to you Dan! This was the tribute slogan given to the Southern States Benefit for Dan and our family March 1, 2007.

High winds, rain and the threat of tornados did not deter friends and family from making this event a success. I cannot sit here and begin to thank all who played a part in this offering of love without crying tears of gratitude.

Dan has been blessed first by God then by his family and friends. Since staying at home with Dan I have started to write thank-you notes. I soon realized this was an impossible task because there are many who donated anonymously. You will never know how much we love and thank each and every person who has thought of us. We still receive cards, calls and feel prayers being said on our behalf each day.We have seen God's love many times but have never felt it as strongly as we do now. I have and always will love living in Blakely. I was raised here so I know what a loving and compassionate community we are blessed with.

During gathering season, many gave of their time, energy and equipment to help gather our peanut and cotton crops. One day nine peanut pickers were in the field at the Whitchard Place. Friends driving past saw the numerous trucks and all the dust and came to help. Nothing had to be said, they just hooked up a trailer and pulled it to town. That was a gathering season to remember.

It has been a year since the first symptom appeared in Dan's life. After many medical tests during the summer of 2006, Dan and I were told he had ALS. During the drive home Dan comforted me by saying, " I have had a good life. I know I am a child of God and I am not afraid of dying." What more is there from life than a testimony of love for God. Without God in our lives we could not travel this journey. Many people tell me they are sorry for what has happened and I ask them why. This illness has brought Dan and I closer together and is helping us teach our children valuable life lessons. God's love has been overwhelming at times. The blessings are still being seen on a daily basis. So you see my friends it is not us in which to feel sorry for. It is the many people in the world who do not know God, who do not have a church family to lean on, who do not have friends such as yourselves.

Always remember 1 John 4:7 "Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God." Our prayer for all our friends and family is that all of you draw closer to our God and seek a personal relationship with him. Commit to being the child of God he wants us all to be. Be bold in your testimony daily! Thank you again,

Dan, Cathy, Ceri and Hunter Cox, Brooke and Brandon Fulford
