ECHS literary team wins second at state

Early County High School was awarded 1-AA runner up in both region and state literary competitions March 9 and March 17.

First place Region 1-AA champions went to Thomasville, who outscored Early County by three points. The region meet put Early County's team up against contestants from the surrounding counties and areas of Berrien, Brooks, Cook, Fitzgerald, Randolph-Clay and Tho-masville.

Schools competed in 10 events, with Early County placing first in four, second in one and third in three.

First place winners were Stephanie Anderson for girls' essay; Daniel Bagwell for boys' extemporaneous

speaking; Frankielee Berry for girls' extemporaneous speaking and Spencer Rice for boys' dramatic interpretation.

Second place winners were J'Lisa Thomas, Tonya McFay and Misty Moreno for girls' trio.

In third place were Misty Moreno for girls' dramatic interpretation; Josh Skipper for boys' solo; Breanna Bush for girls' solo and the boys' quartet consisting of Josh Skipper, Jacob Hawkins, Spencer Rice and Robert Mock.

The Early County literary team placed in nine of the 10 events, earning a total of 45 points to Thomasville's 48.

Fitzger-ald came in third and Cook was fourth.

Bagwell and Berry went on to win first in state, while Anderson and Rice took third, giving Early a second place overall state win as they trailed first place Buford High by two points.

Tammy Kilgore served as essay coach; Kim Hall, extemporaneous speech coach; and Steve and Valerie Crocker, dramatic interpretation coaches.

The Early County Literary coordinator was Steven Crocker.
