Merle Shingler Teacher Merle Reed Shingler, 89, of Cedar Springs died Friday, March 23, 2007, at her residence. Mrs. Shingler was born in Early County, Oct. 19, 1917, to the late Early Alfonso and Ludie Mae Sheffield Reed. She taught English for 34 years and was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church for 64 years. She was also a member of the Addie Brigham Sunday School class, the Pierce-Webb Circle and the Retired Teachers Association of Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney H. Shingler. Survivors include two sons, Ronald Reed Shingler and wife Renee of Cedar Springs and Sidney H. Shingler Jr. and wife Sue of Goose Creek, S.C.; one sister, Eugenia Reed Baughman of Atlanta; seven grandchildren, Ryan Reed Shingler, Rachael Shingler Holloman, Ashley Shingler Payne, Matthew Fletcher Shingler, Sidney H. Shingler III, Joshua Ryan Jacobs and Jason Rickie Jacobs; and seven greatgrandchildren, Emma Reed Holloman, Kaitlyn Grace Shingler, Sydney Abigail Shingler, William Daniel Marsh, Kai Orion Jacobs, Amber Lauren Jacobs and Caden Brian Jacobs. Funeral services were Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church in Donalsonville with Rev. Douglas Clewis, Rev. Luther Hastey and Rev. Kirk Loyless officiating. Interment followed at Friendship Cemetery.
