Georgia Work Ready Program Bainbridge College is hosting information sessions for the Georgia Work Ready Program tomorrow at the Main Campus in Bainbridge, according to Gean Hendrix, director of BC business and industry services. Hendrix is responsible for administration of the program in the BC service area of Decatur, Early, Miller and Seminole counties. The briefings for business, industry and educational personnel will be March 29 in room 416 of the Continuing Education Center at 2500 East Shotwell St. in Bainbridge. The sessions will be 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.-3:30 p.m. The Work Ready Program was announced last year by Gov. Perdue to improve the training and marketability of the state's workforce. The program highlights workers' abilities, identifies skill gaps, and provides training by awarding certificates, creating standards, and connecting technical colleges. It is also designed to help companies that are relocating or expanding to identify communities with well-prepared workforces. The two-part plan first establishes the Work Ready Certificate for individuals. The certificates are awarded following assessment of skills and necessary training at Georgia's 34 technical colleges. Certified workers will then be matched with current and future job matched with current and future job opportunities using occupational profiles. The program also creates the Certified Work Ready Community designation - a voluntary initiative for communities to demonstrate their workforce capacity to fill current and future jobs. Validation as a Certified Work Ready Community will depend upon the number of individuals with certificates and require communities to commit to improving high school graduation rates.
