ECHS hosts survival days Early County High School hosted "Surviving the GHSGT" March 20 and 21 from 3:30 to 5:30 in the Media Center and adjoining classrooms. The purpose of these study sessions was to give juniors and some seniors who had not passed a section of the graduation test an opportunity to have some special hands-on instruction in one or more of the four academic areas. Juniors all across the state of Georgia are gearing up to take graduation tests in math, language arts, science and social studies in the next few weeks. The writing graduation test is given in the fall. Over 50 students stayed March 30 for instruction in everything from reading comprehension and context clues to U.S. history, cell division, physical science problems and algebra. "The students had a genuine concern for their learning. They could have been doing anything else, but they chose to enhance their knowledge through the study sessions provided by the faculty of ECHS," said Jim Morrell, principal at ECHS.
"I believe this was one of the best things that we have done in a long time. Everyone involved thought the sessions were beneficial to the students. Several of the students thanked us for going to so much trouble. The students really worked hard and wanted to be there. I can't thank those special faculty members enough for going the extra mile for the students at ECHS," said Ashley Collier, event organizer.
