By Hannah Scarborough FFA Reporter

Four FFA members traveled to Covington Satur-day March 17 to compete in the State Environmental Natural Resources competition.

The team had previously placed first in area competition in Tifton at ABAC March 6.

The team consisted of Haley Pritchett, Heath Busby, Jason Gentry and Justin Wilkerson.

The state competition was at the FFA/FCCLA Center and consisted of four skill areas.

Contestants had to identify animals, birds, fish, trees and bushes from 250 possible specimens.

Students also had to navigate a four station GPS course using handle-held GPS units.

All contestants had to write an individual press release and take a written exam on water conservation.

The Early County FFA team placed second in state with an overall team score of 1403 out of a possible 1600 points.

Haley Pritchett was the highest scoring individual of all 48 individual contestants.

The Natural Resources team will receive a first place area award at the area banquet in Tifton in May.

The team will also receive an award at the state convention in Macon April 27.

Haley Pritchett will also receive an award for being the highest scoring individual in the state CDE.
