Local FFA members compete

Hannah Scarborough and Clay Willis with ribbons won at the State Hog Show held in Perry.
February 19, four FFA members competed in the Early County Hog Show. Hannah Scarborough, Clay Willis, Tyler Hampton and Sam Stinson competed in showmanship and in the market hog class. Tyler Hampton won first place in showmanship; second place went to Clay Willis; Hannah Scarborough won third place; and Sam Stinson came in fifth place. In the market hog class, Tyler Hampton won first place in the light weight class. In the heavy weight class, Clay Willis won third place and Hannah Scarborough placed fourth.

After competing in Blakely Monday, Hannah Scarborough and Clay Willis traveled to Perry to compete in the state show.

Clay Willis competed in showmanship Thursday and won second place and Hannah Scarborough placed 12th out of 137 12th grade showmen. Willis competed in the barrow market hog division Friday and placed ninth. Both Scarborough and Willis competed Saturday in the gilt market hog division. In class 30, Willis placed second and had the opportunity to compete in the Reserve Champion drive. In class 40, Scarborough placed second in her weight class.

Twelve FFA members traveled to Tifton Feb. 27 to compete in region competition. In environmental natural resources, Justin Wilkerson, Jason Gentry, Haley Pritchett and Heath Busby placed first in area. In senior floriculture, Haley Pritchett, Holly Harrell, Samantha Cason and Chesley Yelverton placed fourth in area. The junior floriculture team was unsuccessful and that team consisted of Willie Freeman, John Dunnigan and Patrick White. Derek Eubanks, who won the Area 5 welding competition Feb. 6, went back and competed in the South Georgia weld-off competition. Out of 60 counties, Derek Eubanks placed second.
