Truck driver charged
The driver of the 18-wheeler involved in the Feb. 11 fatal wreck at the intersection of the U.S. 27 and U.S. 62 bypasses was identified by authorities as 58-year-old Stephen L. Collins of Niceville, Fla. Collins was not injured in the wreck. He has been charged with two misdemeanor counts of homicide by vehicle and one count of failure to stop at a stop sign.
According to authorities, the accident was not alcohol related. However, the charges are pending results of blood tests. Measureable amounts of alcohol or drugs could result in the misdemeanor charges becoming felony homicide charges.
