FCCLA addresses teenage dating violence

National FCCLA week is in February, and Early County FCCLA used this opportunity to speak against dating violence.

In September, chapter officers compiled a script concerning dating violence that included statistics and facts on the signs and effects of violence among today's teens. The officers then presented a script, followed by a quiz, to each homeroom at Early County High. At the chapter meeting, there was a skit performed to demonstrate a common situation of dating violence that was broadcasted on the video announcements.

Members of the Family and Consumer Sciences classes constructed a banner that was placed outside the cafeteria reading: "Valentine's Day is Love - Not Abuse." Students were encouraged to sign the banner as they entered the cafeteria. At the February chapter meeting, cards were given to each member with shocking statistics about violence in relationships.
