Relay for Life Update
Wesley Chapel A.M.E. to sponsor fundraiser

The Joggers represent Wesley Chapel A.M.E. Church in this year's Relay for Life. Team captain Melba Graham announces the team's theme is "Relay Lifesavers" and their first fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, March 3, 9 a.m. to noon in front of B&W Shop on North Church Street. The Joggers urge everyone to come by and try their luck at the balloon pop and shop the bake sale for homemade goodies.

The Relay for Life is the annual fund drive for the American Cancer Society and has been very successful in the past with individual participation and has raised thousands of dollars to help people battling cancer and for cancer research.

This year's Relay will be located on Court Square instead of the football field. The Relay will begin at 7 p.m. and end at 2 a.m.

Chairman Kenneth Hall said, "We have divided our community into four groups for the 2007 Relay. The four groups are the business community, the industrial community, the education and government agencies community, and the religious community and civic clubs."

There will be a friendly competition between these four groups as to which group has the most participants and the most funds raised for the American Cancer Society.

The following are the categories of participation in the 2007 Relay: Relay Team, $1000 minimum with team of walkers; Relay Supporter, $500 minimum donation; Relay Circle of Friends, $250 minimum donation;

Relay Helper, $100 minimum donation.

At the conclusion of the Relay, first and second place community groups in the following areas will be recognized: most relay teams, relay supporters, relay circle of friends, relay helpers; most funds raised by a community group; and first and second place individual teams in each community group that raises the most funds.

If a group wants to have a team in the Relay contact Cindy Conner at 723-6377 or Wallace O'Neal 723-6671, the 2007 team recruitment co-chairs.

Relay teams need to register and raise $100 by February 27. Those who cannot have a Relay team are encouraged to be a Relay Supporter, Relay Circle of Friends or Relay Helper.

A luminary service will be held at 9 p.m. during the Relay. Candles will be lit around the square in honor of those who have fought the battle of cancer and in memory of those who have not survived. Loved ones' names can be placed on a luminary for a minimum donation of $10. The public is invited to this service. Luminaries may be purchased from Glynda Nix, 2007 luminary chair, 793- 4605, or at the chamber of commerce.
