A brutal, barbaric problem... Dog fighting!

City of Blakely animal control officer Charla Chandler and Rusty Adams carry out two of the 29 dogs which were found chained to trees in a wooded area between North Main and Howell Street last week.
Local authorities discovered 29 pit bulldogs chained to trees in a wooded area in Blakely between North Main Street and Howell Street last week.

Blue plastic barrels spotted the wooded area with a trail winding around to each of the chained animals. There were several dead dogs scattered around the area and several others badly mauled from fighting.

Dog fighting - the dogs, which were being used and trained for fighting, were taken to the Blakely animal shelter. Several of the dogs have already had to be euthanized.

Authorities are searching for a Timothy Smith, A.K.A "Shine" of Blakely. They have outstanding warrants on the subject for false imprisonment, drug trafficking and cruelty to animals. Anyone with information of the whereabouts of the suspect is asked to call the Sheriff's Dept. at 723- 3577.
