Let the Bible Speak
The stories he used were called parables which means an earthly story with a heavenly meaning. The parable was often used to lay alongside, or make a comparison of one thing to another. The parable of the bridegroom and the 10 virgins found in Matthew 25:1-13 is an example of the Lord's teaching on the need for being ready for his return. This parable teaches the necessity of being prepared for Christ's return. The parable lets us know of five wise virgins and five foolish ones (Matthew 25:1-4). The five foolish virgins did not think that the bridegroom might be delayed, but he was (Matthew 25:5). They failed to prepare by not having enough oil for their lamps, having to go out to buy extra oil. The bridegroom came as they were gone away, and took the five well prepared virgins with him to the marriage feast. The door to the marriage feast was closed leaving the five foolish virgins out in the cold (Matthew 25:10-12).
Friends, the Lord Jesus will return one day to judge the world (Act 17:30- 31). Preparation for that day needs to be made by all accountable beings. The choice is ours.We can be as unprepared as the five foolish virgins or be prepared to enter heaven! God's will is that we be wise and make preparation by obeying his plan of salvation (Romans 10:17; Hebrews 11:6; Luke 13:5; Romans 10:9-10).
