Linda Matthews
1947-2007

Linda Gale Matthews of Destin, Fla., ended her valiant battle with brain cancer Jan. 22, 2007.

Linda's wonderful, loving parents, Eddie B. and Christine Robinson, found it fitting to give their little girl the middle name Gale, as she was born during a fierce storm Feb. 4, 1947 in Donalsonville. As the hospital's power went out that stormy night, Linda's newborn hours were spent without the modern amenities which would normally ease her way into this world. Fighting for life by candlelight and with God's will, he saw her to healthy life. And what a great life she lived. There were tough times, love lost and then found and lost again. Ironically, that Gale storm that welcomed her into this world foreshadowed the spirit, determination and tenacity showed through everyday in her fight for life.

In 1965, she graduated Donalsonville High School and married her first love Jimmy Parker, an Airman from Blakely. They traveled to the corners of the world together; from the Pacific Islands of Guam, where she gave birth to her first child, Kimberly Michele, and then back to the states where her son, Gregory Scott, was to be born. Her family moved to Destin in 1977 when Jimmy lost his battle to cancer a year later. Jimmy was a great man and she loved him dearly.

For the next eight years, Linda raised her two children alone, teaching them the same great family values of love, responsibilty and respect for others that her parents instilled into her. She loved her children without limits. In 1986, she married Carl Matthews. Her loving marriage with her adoring husband showed her again that life is beautiful.

She is survived by her mother Christine Robinson; her two children, Kim Bradley and Greg Parker; and her three granddaughters, Ashlyn, Calie, and Annabelle; Carl's children Dana Matthews, Cherie Livingston, and their chidlren, D.C., T.J., Chas, Alex, Cheyenne, Brittany, Hunter, Kelsey and Marley.

Linda Matthews was an extraordinary daughter, mother, and grandmother who was loved beyond comprehension and will be missed dearly.
