Guess what? We don't care

I was watching one of those quasi-liberal news shows last week when I heard that the Democratic caucus had made a really important decision. Before I get to that, let me just say that I try to balance my news coverage equally between left-biased and right-biased. I can no longer find just the news.

Let me also point out that I used "Democratic" rather than "Democrat." President Bush got in big trouble for dropping the "ic." I've done it a lot of times. I'm sorry.

Anywho, it appears that first term House members no longer have to feel trivialized or degraded by the term "freshman." The Democratic caucus has decided that henceforth, the new kids on the block are just that, new.

It seems that some felt the term freshman was derogatory. I'm guessing it was a slow day in the caucus if this was the only thing they could come up with.

One new representative was quoted as saying that he thought maybe the public liked the word new better than freshman. Supposedly, we the people might see freshman as a derogatory term.

Give me a break. I don't think anyone gives a hoot what elected officials call each other. What we do care about is how much it cost tax payers for a bunch of politicians to sit around and talk about whether to call themselves new or freshman. I'm guessing it was pretty pricey.

There was probably lunch or at least heavy refreshments. I'm guessing no one brought finger sandwiches or a covered dish from home.

Instead of worrying about things that relate totally to ego, and being called new or freshman is all about ego, let's get working on the business at hand.

Stop thinking that the shift of power means you are special. You aren't. You won by default.

Let's pull those chairs up to the table, the blue seats and the red ones, and start solving problems.

Knock off the resolutions about the war in Iraq and start doing something concrete to bring the thing to a conclusion. Getting on the plane and coming home isn't as easy as you guys make it out to be. You probably know that.

Stop complaining that no one's done anything about healthcare and find a solution that helps the average working family afford health insurance.

While you are at it, solve the really big one. Find a way to end entitlements and put people to work.

Shoot, you take care of the big three and even I'll be a believer.

Otherwise, if you spend the next couple of years twiddling your thumbs and not accomplishing anything, you probably won't like what the public will be calling you. Derogatory would be putting it mildly.
