County meeting

The Early County Commissioners addressed a short agenda for their first meeting of 2007. Commissioner F.C. "Butch" Wiggins began his term at Monday night's meeting.

Chairman Richard Ward opened the meeting and welcomed Wiggins to the board.

County attorney Bill Mills updated the commissioners on pending legal issues. The commissioners approved a probation supervision agreement and discussed proposed changes in zoning ordinances to include a charge for approving electrical hook-ups.

The commission re-appointed Mills attorney for the county.

The FY06 audit report was approved and Kenneth Hall was approved as representative to the Southwest Georgia Regional Development Center board to replace Richard Crozier. Kathy Howard was reappointed as the county's representative.

Commissioner Wiggins was appointed to serve on the board of health and a liquor license for U.S. Food Mart in Jakin was approved.

Chairman Ward announced that Early County 2055 had donated 12 automatic external defibrillators to be placed at sites throughout the county, including the courthouse.

The commission also approved purchase of a computer for the road department.

Appearing before the board was Mark Sajer of Summit Energy Partners requesting the county approve the location of an ash pit on the old Omnivest property in Clay County. The site is within one half mile of the Early County line and EPD regulations require approval by the commission. The commissioners told Sajer they would like to see the plan in total before making a decision.
