The annual Pumpkins on the Square activities, sponsored by Better Hometown, will be Tuesday, Oct 30 with pumpkin decorating and Halloween costume contests. Gov. Sonny Perdue announced Friday that the state of Georgia has filed a court order in the Middle District of Florida Federal Court requiring the Army Corps of Engineers to restrict water flows from Lake Lanier and Georgia's federal reservoirs. More...

Water flow and reservoir level conditions in the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint river basin in Georgia, Alabama, and Florida are very severe as the region continues in the worst drought on record for the basin. Veteran William Lloyd Parker, 87, of Palatka, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at Crestwood Nursing Center following an extended illness. Mr. Parker was a native of Toombs County and resided in Palatka since 1983, coming from Blakely.
