Reception planned
      Mr. and Mrs. Thomas E. Wright Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Alexander invite family and friends to a reception celebrating the marriage of their children, Josh and Ansley Alexander. The couple were married in January and were unable to hold a reception at that time due to Josh's military schedule.

      The families of Laura Elizabeth Smith and Jason Robert Coggins announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage. The bride-elect is the daughter of Linda K. Smith and the late David W. Smith of Blakely. She is the granddaughter of the late Woodie and Christine King of Donalsonville and the late Ernest and Melva Smith of Cordele.

50th anniversary celebrated
      Harold and Patricia Mercer celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, August 19. Mr. and Mrs. Mercer were high school sweethearts while attending Early County High School and have been together ever since. They lived in Albany for over 40 years and are now "back to their roots" in Blakely during their retirement years.

Bridges celebrates 90th birthday
      Sadie Bridges of Blakely was the guest of honor at a birthday reception at the First Baptist Church fellowship hall Saturday, Aug. 4. The birthday reception, hosted by her children, celebrated Mrs. Bridges' 90th birthday. Mrs. Bridges was born Sarah Lou Grubbs Aug. 10, 1917, in Perry, Fla., to John Wilbur Grubbs and Vencie Vashti Hendry Grubbs.

      U.S. Navy Martavious Bankston left for the U.S. Navy Aug. 20. He is the son of Lee and Christene Bankston of Blakely. Bankston is a 2007 graduate of Early County High School.

District gets $5.8 million to update maps
      Congressman Sanford Bishop, Representative from Georgia's second congressional district, announced that Georgia's Department of Natural Resources will receive a $5.8 million grant from the U.S. These funds will improve Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency to support its floodplain mapping program.
