Arlington park renovated

Ivelice Cooper stepped forward to refurbish the run down sidewalk park in Arlington.
The small sidewalk park in downtown Arlington had been looking rather run down over the years. First built by community volunteers, the park was allowed over the years to fall into disrepair.

However, Ivelice Cooper recently stepped forward to re-furbish and maintain the park. With the help of city employees, Cooper has cleaned out the debris, planted a live evergreen tree, placed potted plants throughout and decorated the park for Christmas.

“Ms. Cooper is an example of an individual taking pride in their community by personally deciding to make a difference in her community,” says Lee Conner of the Arlington Downtown Development Authority.

“Individuals doing small projects such as this make a community,” Conner said. “It’s not the large plans such as building a new gym or senior center that make a community better. Although these projects are important, it’s the individuals that work with these projects once they are built that make the difference. We can build a gym but having no one to step forward to coach a team makes it an empty investment.”

Conner went on to say, “Pride in our community comes when all residents are involved in the process of moving forward to build a spirit of ownership in the community. We thank Ms Cooper for her work in the community.

If you have not had a chance, ride by the small park between the downtown buildings on Highland Avenue in Arlington to see what a difference one individual can make!”
